Things are on the up: a post about performances and awards
Finally I have time to write a decent tumblr post. SO this past week as been amazing like no other although it was a nonstop ride of rehearsals and performances. So my week essentially started on friday of last week (if that makes any sort of sense…) in which we started our “tech” rehearsals for KINESIS 2012 the dance group/fam bam call it what you will was opening for the entire show and there was so many great pieces for that show. It was really stressful though trying to coordinate class and rehearsals for the Monday and Tuesday shows this is because We pretty much had a full day of tech on both days and so many rehearsals. Monday was so hectic just because I had mandatory rehearsals for a Choir show on Friday at the VPAC (valley performing arts center) which really almost gave me a heart attack because I had to attend that rehearsal from 2-4 then literally book it all the way to The PDS (Plaza Del Sol) for a dress rehearsal that starts at 4. I can remember how ridiculous I looked speeding across campus from Cypress hall to Plaza Del Sol ( I think it felt like 2 city blocks on an incline). Then I remember seeing my Taiko group selling onigiri (which I bought) while I was grimacing at the pain of my legs starting to give out on the home stretch of the matador square and the backstage entrance. But anyways I made it and was able to get through the awesome shows of KINESIS with C.O.S.M.I.C and the rest of the cast. Then on Tuesday night after show I went to Hooters for the first time with the fam bam and got some wings with the group.
So that explains Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. woooo
On Wednesday was the day to real focus on choir stuff. SO choir rehearsal was really heard just because our choir teacher had the bright idea of teaching the choir separate parts instead of sticking to a uniform schedule of teaching and arugjhkahnbnaufbjhnaio…… (this would take forever to talk about so lets say I didn’t feel so prepared) On wednesday after well semi-bombing a vocal tech quiz I had completely forgot to study for I headed over to the rehearsal for the “Carmina Burana” That piece is just so epic, but also very hard! Look it up or well i’ll post a link to the first movement I think you’ll all recognize it. So we had about 100 or more students packed like Sardines into the Rehearsal Hal or CYP 159? I think. But it was a wonderfully humid 89 degrees that day and I was smart enough to where my Scott Pilgrim Jacket :D well I was sweating bullets at the end of rehearsals. But I think the thing that really got me through that day was that I got nominated for the Irene Ryan award by the Kennedy Center folks from a text post I had left on here a while ago. I was thoroughly surprised because It was so out of the blue. I got it from the office while i was signing up for “Spring Awakening”.
Rachel walks up to me and asks “Are you Jeff Sabino?”
I said “Yeah” as I was reading the audition info.
“Congratulations” and she handed me the award
Then I said ”What?”
SO that sums up Wednesday I celebrated and went to a small dance rehearsal for C.O.S.M.I.C for a small show on Saturday.
Then like a Hiimdaisy comic, on Thursday, School happened however another thing that definitely brightened my day and my week was that I got Chosen for the Gaye Sheridan Memorial Scholarship. I seriously felt numbed by the amount of excitement that I got for getting it. My award Ceremony is going to happen Friday May 11th, 2012 so yeah you should totally go yeah :D. Then Practice happened again for dance. Plus you wouldn’t believe how my mom reacted when she read the email and Irene Ryan
Man i’m taking for ever to write this but bear with me I’m almost done
SO Friday, Ohhh Friday exactly a week from tech in Kinesis. Well that was the day of the “Carmina Burana” the day that everyone in choir is waiting for. When I first stepped inside that theatre I said to myself “dude you are finally performing in the VPAC” even if its not such a major part I got to perform in the building that I’ve set my eyes on since freshman year. But we had a really long rehearsal and tech with the orchestra and DAMN its sounds so epic inside that theatre. well the Carmina. Sorry that my writing is degressing I’m just gettting a little tired. But yea time passed and it was show time It was so much fun especially the 14th movement in which the guys had to sing a whole freaking paragraph of latin. But afterwards it felt like heaven broke open because all that stress was finally lifted from my shoulders.
Then today happened dancing free styling and food with free food after but still things are on the up hopefully i can get my audition pieces together for “Spring awakening”
Thanks to all the people that supported me during this terribly stressful yet rewarding semester. You know who you are XD I hope you guys read this
